Control file size before you send
GIF size depends on dimensions, the number of frames, motion, and visual detail. Reducing width, shortening the clip, or lowering video FPS usually helps more than changing playback speed. Dithering may smooth gradients but can increase file size.
The result displays exact bytes and a conservative 8 MB target. Discord attachment limits depend on account and upload context and may change. Chat attachments, custom emoji, stickers, and animated avatars have different requirements. This export targets chat GIF attachments; it does not unlock Nitro features.
Supported inputs and honest limits
Import PNG, JPEG, static WebP, existing GIF files, or a video your browser can decode. MP4 and WebM are common choices; MOV support depends on the codec and browser. Video sound is removed because GIF has no audio.
Files are limited to 20 MB each and 60 source image frames. Exports use at most 120 frames and a 640 px longest edge. Images are fitted without stretching; a background color fills the remaining space and replaces transparency. GIF has a 256-color palette, so photographs may lose subtle color detail.

How do I add a custom GIF into Discord?
Download the finished GIF and use Discord’s attachment button, or drag the file into a chat and send it. The file must meet the applicable attachment limit. Uploading a GIF to a conversation does not automatically add it to Discord’s searchable GIF picker or Tenor. Animated emoji and avatars are separate features with their own requirements.
Can I edit an existing GIF or change its speed?
Yes. Import a GIF to extract its frames and original delays. Remove or reorder frames, change individual delays, or apply a new delay to every frame. Transparent areas are flattened onto your chosen background when you export.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. File decoding, frame editing, and GIF encoding happen in your browser. Your selected media is not sent to our servers. Closing the page clears the current editing session.
